First, it is exceptionally difficult to hold books in front of your face while taking a photograph.
Secondly, one can not go into Reading Frenzy with out spending all your money. As soon as you walk in you’re immersed in zines, comics, local art and a bunch of other goodies that you cant help but want to take home with you. They also carry a bunch of NoBrow Press publications which makes me really happy.
I had to stop myself at these three things, but I think I made good choices.
Wax Cross by Tin Can Forest contains some really beautiful and inspiring work, but then again, all the work I’ve seen from them has been. They’re published by Koyama Press (wouldlovetointernfor) who also works with Meg Hunt, an awesome illustrator and professor at PNCA.
Indoor Voice is by Jillian Tamaki so naturally, I had to buy it. She can do no wrong…buy Jillian… she is an illustration god.
Lastly, MOME 22. My excuse for buying this was that it was marked down, but the real selling point was that Elenore Davis has a beautiful little comic featured in this collection. Elenore is another crush of mine…she is super awesome and great. MOME has collected a bunch of artists over 6 years in 22 issues and they’re a really nice way of discovering some art that you may not have otherwise been exposed to. I tend to get tunnel vision when it comes to styles of art that I do or don’t like. I like anthologies because they break me out of that.
